Australia Crush South Africa to Top CWC25 Table

Australia secured the top spot in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 with a dominant seven-wicket win over South Africa in Indore on Thursday. Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Voll guided the unbeaten Australians home, sealing their place in the semi-finals against hosts India.

Leg-spinner Alana King delivered a record-breaking spell, claiming 7 for 18 — the best figures in the history of the Women’s Cricket World Cup — as South Africa were bundled out for just 97 runs. Megan Schutt and Kim Garth also struck early to dismantle the Proteas’ top order before King’s brilliance sealed Australia’s control.

Despite early breakthroughs from Marizanne Kapp and Masabata Klaas, Beth Mooney (42) and Georgia Voll (38*) steadied the chase, putting on a crucial 76-run partnership. Sutherland hit the winning runs with more than 33 overs to spare.

With the victory, Australia will now face India in the second semi-final on October 30 at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, while South Africa will take on England in Guwahati.
