Shamas, Bowlers power Pakistan to consolation win over South Africa

Sadaf Shamas’ 97-run knock and a clinical bowling display helped Pakistan secure a 119-run win in the third and final ODI against South Africa, ending the series 2-1.

Batting first, Pakistan posted 306 for 8, with Shamas leading the charge alongside Sidra Amin in a 130-run second-wicket partnership. Shamas faced 82 balls, striking 16 fours and a six before being caught and bowled by Sune Luus, who finished with 3 for 42. Captain Fatima Sana provided the late impetus, smashing 60 off 41 balls, including five sixes, to push Pakistan past the 300-run mark.

South Africa struggled to build momentum in their chase of 307. Early wickets by Tasmia Rubab and Sana reduced the visitors to 7 for 3 by the end of the second over. Annerie Dercksen (54) and Faye Tunnicliffe (47) briefly steadied the innings with an 85-run partnership, but back-to-back dismissals of Jafta and Dercksen swung the momentum firmly in Pakistan’s favour.

Sadia Iqbal completed the rout with three quick wickets, finishing South Africa’s innings at 187. Pakistan’s bowlers never allowed the visitors to recover, ensuring a convincing consolation win in the final game of the series.

The victory gives Pakistan a morale boost after losing the series 2-0 and highlights Shamas’ emergence as a match-winner with both bat and ball.
