Navneet Dhaliwal bids farewell as Canada icon calls time after T20 World Cup

Canada stalwart Navneet Dhaliwal will bring the curtain down on his international career following his side’s last group-stage match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Chennai.

The 37-year-old former captain has anchored Canada’s batting for more than a decade, featuring in 18 ODIs and 48 T20Is while leading the team in 29 T20 internationals, guiding them to 21 wins during a transformative period for the side.

Dhaliwal’s career highlights include Canada’s first-ever T20 World Cup half-century, a 61 against the USA in 2024, and becoming the country’s highest run-scorer in T20Is, while also playing a key role in rebuilding the team and reclaiming ODI status through consistent performances across global leagues.

Still contributing on the big stage, he has scored 108 runs in three matches at this year’s tournament, including a fluent 64 against South Africa national cricket team, proving his value right until the end.

Though stepping away from international cricket, Dhaliwal plans to remain close to the game through youth coaching, leaving behind not just numbers but a legacy of leadership and belief that helped shape modern Canadian cricket.
