History made as Farhan breaks Kohli’s record, matches Gayle

Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan etched his name in T20 World Cup history by surpassing Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs in a single edition of the tournament.

Farhan scored his second century of the 2026 T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on Saturday, finishing the tournament with 383 runs at an average of 76.60, eclipsing Kohli’s 319-run haul from the 2014 edition.

The Pakistan opener also became only the second player in T20 World Cup history to score multiple centuries at the tournament, matching the legendary Chris Gayle—though Farhan achieved both tons in the same edition, a feat Gayle managed across two tournaments.

Despite Farhan’s extraordinary performance, Pakistan missed out on the knockout stages for the second consecutive T20 World Cup, with their last semi-final appearance being in 2022 when they finished runners-up to England.

Captain Salman Ali Agha reflected on the team’s shortcomings, emphasizing the need for better decision-making under pressure. “Whenever there is pressure, our decision-making is not as good as it should be. At ICC events, handling that pressure matters more than anything,” he said.
