Former England batter Fran Wilson has been appointed as the new head coach of Gloucestershire Women, marking the beginning of her full-time coaching career after retiring from playing with Somerset.
Wilson, who was part of England’s 2017 World Cup-winning squad, played 64 international matches between 2010 and 2021. She also featured in multiple global tournaments, including the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia.
Having previously represented Gloucestershire in domestic competitions and contributed to the county’s Girls Emerging Players Programme, Wilson now takes charge of the women’s setup in Tier 2 of the new county structure.
“I’ve done a lot of coaching alongside playing, but it’s exciting to step into this role fully,” Wilson said, emphasising her goal of building sustainable success and strong player pathways.
Gloucestershire Director of Cricket Jon Lewis praised the appointment, describing Wilson as the “standout candidate” and highlighting her strong connection to the region and deep understanding of elite performance.
