India make history as Rodrigues and Harmanpreet end Australia’s reign

  • India chase down 339 — the highest ever in women’s ODIs — to reach the World Cup final
  • Rodrigues’ unbeaten 127 and Harmanpreet’s 89 power India past defending champions

India scripted history at the DY Patil Stadium, pulling off the highest successful chase in women’s ODI history to defeat Australia by five wickets and storm into the 2025 Women’s World Cup final.

Jemimah Rodrigues was the star of the night with an unbeaten 127, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur struck 89 in a sensational 167-run stand that dismantled Australia’s 338-run total. Their partnership powered India to victory with nine balls to spare — ending Australia’s 15-match World Cup winning streak and securing India’s first final appearance since 2017.

Phoebe Litchfield’s brilliant 119, supported by Ellyse Perry (77) and Ashleigh Gardner (63), had earlier guided Australia to 338. But India’s composed chase, led by Rodrigues’ calm brilliance and Harmanpreet’s fierce intent, turned the night into a cinematic triumph in front of 34,000 roaring fans.

India will face South Africa in Sunday’s historic final — the first Women’s World Cup decider without Australia or England.
