FFSL President Jaswar Umar unveils Vision for Sri Lankan Football’s ‘Next Chapter’

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka’s (FFSL) Annual Ordinary Congress 2026 concluded successfully in Nuwara Eliya, with FFSL President Jaswar Umar describing the event as a significant milestone in the transformation of Sri Lankan football. The Congress brought together member leagues, delegates and stakeholders from across the country, reinforcing a shared commitment to developing the sport at all levels.

A major announcement during the Congress was a plan to establish permanent office premises for all member leagues. Umar said the initiative would provide leagues with professional administrative bases to better serve clubs, players, coaches, referees and local football communities, while strengthening the foundation of the game nationwide.

The project forms part of FFSL’s long-term strategic framework, “The Next Chapter,” which focuses on improving governance, expanding competitions, enhancing infrastructure and developing grassroots football. Umar stressed that strong regional leagues are essential for building a successful football nation and ensuring sustainable growth.

Looking ahead, the FFSL President outlined ambitions to increase youth participation, strengthen women’s football, improve coaching and refereeing standards, and raise Sri Lanka’s competitiveness on the international stage. He called on leagues, clubs, players, coaches, sponsors and supporters to work together to build a stronger football culture as Sri Lankan football enters its 87th year.
