Sri Lanka appoint Gary Kirsten as New Head Coach

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten as the new head coach of the men’s national side, with his tenure set to begin on April 15, 2026.

Kirsten has been given a two-year contract as Sri Lanka look to rebuild and strengthen the team ahead of major international tournaments.

The renowned coach previously led the India to victory at the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and later guided the South Africa to the No.1 ranking across all formats during his tenure from 2011 to 2013.

Most recently, Kirsten served as a consultant for the Namibia during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Sri Lanka Cricket believes Kirsten’s vast international experience will play a crucial role in preparing the team for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
