New Zealand have been confirmed as the third semi-finalists at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after Pakistan fell short in their Super 8 clash against co-hosts Sri Lanka.
Pakistan needed a 65-run victory margin to advance but were unable to restrict Sri Lanka below 147, with the hosts narrowly missing the target by five runs.
Put in to bat first, Pakistan laid a strong foundation, powered by a record-breaking partnership. Zaman returned to the top of the order with 84 off 42 balls, while Farhan scored his second century of the tournament, becoming the first batter in Men’s T20 World Cup history to hit two tons in a single edition and surpassing former India captain Virat Kohli for the highest runs in a single tournament.
Sri Lanka’s reply featured a resilient stand between Pavan Rathnayake and Dasun Shanaka, with Shanaka finishing unbeaten on 76. Despite their efforts, they fell just short, allowing New Zealand to progress.
New Zealand now join England and South Africa in the semi-finals, with the final spot to be decided as India take on West Indies in the concluding Super 8 match in Kolkata. England confirmed their place with three straight Super 8 wins, while South Africa remain unbeaten, set to face Zimbabwe in their final group match.
