West Indies produced a brutal batting masterclass to hammer Zimbabwe and launch their Super Eight campaign of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in commanding fashion on Monday (23).
At the batting-friendly Wankhede Stadium, Shai Hope’s men piled up a staggering 254/6, the highest total of this edition and the second highest in T20 World Cup history, riding on explosive half-centuries from Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell.
Hetmyer blazed a 19-ball fifty, the fastest by a West Indian at a T20 World Cup, before smashing 85 off just 34 deliveries, while Powell added a powerful 59 as the pair tore through the attack with 19 sixes and 16 fours.
Facing a record chase, Zimbabwe faltered under pressure and slipped early, eventually folding for 147 despite late resistance, as Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie shared seven wickets between them to seal a thumping 107-run triumph.
The victory keeps West Indies unbeaten with five wins in five matches, underlining their growing dominance and sending a strong warning to every contender in the Super Eight race.
