South Africa crush India by 76 runs to end unbeaten streak

South Africa snapped India’s 12-match unbeaten streak at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a commanding 76-run victory in Ahmedabad on Sunday (22).

After stumbling to 20/3, South Africa rebuilt through David Miller, who powered 63 off 35 balls, while Dewald Brevis added 45 in a blistering 97-run stand to lift the Proteas to a challenging 187/7.

India had their moments early as Jasprit Bumrah produced a fiery 3/15 spell to become India’s leading wicket-taker in T20 World Cups with 33 scalps, but a late surge from Tristan Stubbs, unbeaten on 44, ensured South Africa crossed the 180 mark.

Chasing 188, India never found momentum and slumped to 31/3 in the powerplay, with Aiden Markram striking early and the Proteas attack squeezing relentlessly despite a fighting 42 from Shivam Dube.

Marco Jansen (4/22), Aiden Markram (1/5), Corbin Bosch (2/12) and Keshav Maharaj (3/24) combined in a ruthless bowling masterclass to bowl India out for 111 in 18.5 overs, sealing a statement win and echoing memories of their 2024 final triumph.
