England piled up 202 thanks to a late assault from Will Jacks, whose unbeaten 53 came off just 22 balls, alongside a punchy cameo from Sam Curran as the former champions hammered 88 runs in the final six overs.
Italy responded bravely through Benjamin Manenti’s explosive 60 and Grant Stewart’s late blows, but England’s bowling depth proved decisive, with Jofra Archer striking early and Curran returning with three key wickets to close out the contest.
The victory pushed England into second place in the group and restored momentum after a shaky start to their campaign.
Afghanistan edge UAE in tense Delhi finish
Earlier at New Delhi, Afghanistan kept their qualification dreams alive with a gritty five-wicket win over the UAE.
After restricting the UAE to 160/9, powered by a superb 4/15 from Azmatullah Omarzai, Afghanistan’s chase wobbled before Ibrahim Zadran steadied the innings with a composed half-century.
Omarzai then completed a match-winning all-round show, blasting an unbeaten 40 to guide the side home with four balls to spare and lift Afghanistan to third in the group standings.
