Sri Lanka suffered a major injury scare in a pivotal ICC Men’s T20 World Cup encounter when young speedster Matheesha Pathirana hobbled off the field mid-over against Australia.
The 23-year-old had barely begun his spell when he pulled up sharply during his follow-through on the fourth ball of his opening over, clutching his left hamstring before collapsing to the turf in visible discomfort.
Medical staff rushed in for treatment, but Pathirana was unable to continue and had to be assisted off the field, leaving Sri Lanka a bowler short at a critical stage of the contest.
The setback deepens Sri Lanka’s injury woes, with frontline spinner Hasaranga already ruled out earlier in the tournament, raising fresh concerns over the side’s bowling balance as the knockout race intensifies.
