Pakistan and New Zealand march on with second wins as T20 World Cup heats up

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup delivered another action-packed day on Tuesday (10) as Pakistan, New Zealand, and the Netherlands registered crucial victories across Colombo, Chennai, and India.

Clinical batting displays, disciplined bowling spells, and dominant chases highlighted a day where momentum began to shape the group standings.

While Pakistan outclassed the USA in a high-scoring thriller, New Zealand produced a ruthless 10-wicket demolition of UAE, and the Netherlands sealed a confident all-round win over Namibia.

Pakistan hold nerve to outplay USA

Pakistan made it two wins in two with a commanding 32-run victory over the USA in Colombo.

Openers Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan provided early momentum, racing past 50 inside five overs before Shadley van Schalkwyk’s double strike slowed the charge.

Farhan steadied the innings with a sparkling 73 off 41 balls, combining with Babar Azam (46) for an 81-run stand, while Shadab Khan’s late cameo of 30 from just 12 deliveries powered Pakistan to 190/9.

The USA responded positively with a 42-run opening stand, but Pakistan’s spin duo Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab struck at key moments to derail the chase, before Usman Tariq’s late burst ensured the Americans were restricted, sealing a comfortable win.

New Zealand unleash batting blitz against UAE

New Zealand produced one of the most dominant chases of the tournament, crushing UAE by 10 wickets in Chennai.

UAE posted a competitive 173/6 thanks to half-centuries from Alishan Sharafu (55) and captain Muhammad Waseem (66*), but the Kiwis made light work of the target.

Tim Seifert and Finn Allen launched a brutal assault from the outset, hammering 78 runs in the powerplay and dismantling the bowling with fearless strokeplay.

Seifert’s unbeaten 89 and Allen’s 84* powered New Zealand to 175/0 in just 15.2 overs, with their 175-run partnership setting a new record for the highest stand in men’s T20 World Cup history and lifting the Kiwis to the top of Group D.

Bas de Leede stars as Netherlands down Namibia

The Netherlands claimed their first win of the campaign with a composed seven-wicket victory over Namibia.

After restricting Namibia to 156/8 with tight spells from Aryan Dutt, Logan van Beek, and Bas de Leede, the Dutch chase was anchored by De Leede’s superb all-round performance.

The 26-year-old smashed an unbeaten 72 off 48 balls, sharing a steady 70-run stand with Colin Ackermann to guide the Netherlands through tricky phases on a slow surface.

Their measured finish ensured victory with two overs to spare, rounding off a complete team effort.

Tournament momentum building

With Pakistan and New Zealand now unbeaten and the Netherlands finding rhythm, the group stages are beginning to take shape.

Batting firepower has dominated headlines, but timely wickets and calm chases continue to separate contenders from the rest.

As the World Cup caravan moves forward, every match is tightening the race for the knockouts, and the intensity is only just getting started.
