BCCI announces 2025-26 central contracts: Kohli, Rohit drop, Gill joins top tier

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the central contracts for the 2025–26 season, covering October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026, for both the men’s and women’s teams.

In a headline move, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma drop to Grade B in the men’s list following their retirement from Test cricket last year, limiting their involvement to the 50-over formats. Shubman Gill, India’s new Test and ODI captain, earns a maiden promotion to the top grade, joining Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, even as the BCCI has removed the Grade A+ category from the contracts.

The men’s structure has been overhauled, reducing the four-tier system to three, aligning it with the women’s contracts. Sai Sudharsan enters the list for the first time, while Sarfaraz Khan, Mohammed Shami, Ishan Kishan, Rajat Patidar, and Mukesh Kumar miss out this season.

On the women’s side, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Deepti Sharma retain their Grade A spots. Jemimah Rodrigues earns a promotion after her standout role in India’s ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 triumph. Sneh Rana also moves up from Grade C to Grade B. New entrants include Pratika Rawal, Kranti Gaud, Sree Charani, Kashvee Gautam, G Kamalini, Vaishnavi Sharma, and Tejal Hasabnis, while Harleen Deol joins Grade C. Notable omissions include Shreyanka Patil, Pooja Vastrakar, and Titas Sadhu.
