- Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs drafted into the squad
South Africa have suffered a significant setback ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, with batters Tony de Zorzi and Donovan Ferreira ruled out of both the tournament and the preceding three-match T20I series against West Indies. Cricket South Africa confirmed the duo will be replaced by Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs in the squad.
De Zorzi has failed to recover in time from a right hamstring tear sustained during last month’s ODI series against India. Medical staff have advised continued rehabilitation, ruling him out of the West Indies series and the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Ferreira, meanwhile, suffered a fracture to his left clavicle during a domestic T20 match earlier this month, immediately ending his chances of featuring in the global tournament. His absence further weakens South Africa’s middle-order depth heading into the marquee event.
Concerns have also emerged around David Miller, who picked up an adductor muscle injury while playing in South Africa’s domestic T20 competition on Monday. Miller has been ruled out of the West Indies T20Is, with CSA stating his World Cup participation will depend on the outcome of upcoming fitness tests.
South Africa, placed in Group D, will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Canada on February 9, as the Proteas look to overcome mounting injury challenges and build momentum ahead of the tournament.
South Africa’s updated T20 World Cup squad:
Aiden Markram (C), Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Quinton de Kock, Marco Jansen, George Linde, Keshav Maharaj, Kwena Maphaka, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Jason Smith and Tristan Stubbs.
