Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the appointment of former India batting coach Vikram Rathour as the Batting Coach of the Sri Lanka National Team, marking a significant move ahead of the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2026. Rathour has been brought in on a consultancy basis, with his primary responsibility centred on strengthening Sri Lanka’s batting unit during the crucial preparation phase.
A former India international who represented the country in both Tests and One-Day Internationals, Rathour brings vast experience at the highest level of the game. He will officially assume duties on January 18, 2026, and remain with the national side until March 10, 2026, working closely with players and support staff during this period.
Rathour previously served as the Batting Coach of the Indian Men’s Team across all formats from September 2019 to July 2024, a phase that saw India achieve consistent success across Tests, ODIs and T20Is. His tenure was particularly noted for developing batting depth and adaptability in high-pressure global tournaments.
Highly qualified as a coach, Rathour holds BCCI Level 3, Cricket Australia Level 3, and ECB Level 1 coaching certifications. He is currently part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) setup in the Indian Premier League (IPL), serving as their Lead Assistant Coach, and now adds Sri Lanka to his growing international coaching résumé as the island nation gears up for a major global challenge in 2026.
