Bangladesh bank on experience for U19 World Cup 2026

Bangladesh have named a seasoned and well-balanced squad for the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026, placing faith in proven performers to lead their charge in Zimbabwe and Namibia. Top-order batter Azizul Hakim will captain the side, with the prolific Zawad Abrar appointed vice-captain ahead of the Group B campaign that begins against India on January 17.

The pair bring serious pedigree into the tournament. Both Hakim and Abrar have crossed 1,000 Youth ODI runs since the last edition of the World Cup, while Kalam Siddiki adds further depth with 857 runs in the same period. Together, the trio form the backbone of a batting lineup that has shown both consistency and temperament in pressure situations.

Bangladesh’s attack looks equally dangerous. Iqbal Hossain and Al Fahad headline the pace department and are expected to relish the seam-friendly surfaces in southern Africa, having claimed 45 and 43 wickets respectively since the previous World Cup. Left-arm spinner Samiun Basir offers a quality spin option, entering the tournament with 29 wickets at under four runs an over, underlining his control in the middle overs.

The selectors have also named a group of standby players, ensuring depth and competition for spots within the squad. Bangladesh, placed in Group B alongside India, New Zealand, and the USA, face a challenging path, but with experience, form, and balance across the squad, they will believe a deep run is firmly within reach.

Calm heads and big-match composure may prove decisive. And Bangladesh have selected a group built exactly for that.
