- State-of-the-art LED floodlight system to illuminate five World Cup matches
- Dressing rooms, broadcast facilities, and VIP areas receive modern upgrades
- Pakistan vs Netherlands to kick off the tournament at the historic Colombo venue
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) today (2) hosted a media tour at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Grounds in Colombo, highlighting the extensive renovations underway ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The SSC will host five matches, including the tournament opener on February 7, 2026, featuring Pakistan and the Netherlands.
A centerpiece of the development is a state-of-the-art LED floodlight system, designed to meet international sports and broadcasting standards. The installation comprises 630 LED fixtures across six high-mast towers, offering uniform illumination with minimal glare and shadows. The system also includes dynamic lighting controls, capable of creating visually engaging scenes for spectators and enhancing the matchday experience.
In addition to lighting, SSC is undergoing multiple upgrades to meet global cricketing standards. Renovations include modernized dressing rooms, new offices for match officials, enhanced broadcast and commentary facilities, and VIP spectator boxes, ensuring a world-class experience for players, officials, and fans alike.
Officials from Sri Lanka Cricket and SSC emphasised that these improvements reflect the country’s commitment to delivering a top-tier tournament and strengthening Colombo’s standing as a premier cricketing venue.
