Lasith Malinga appointed Sri Lanka’s Fast Bowling Consultant ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed legendary fast bowler Lasith Malinga as the Consultant Fast Bowling Coach of the national men’s team on a short-term assignment. His role will run from 15 December 2025 to 25 January 2026, focusing on strengthening the fast-bowling unit in the crucial build-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Malinga will work closely with Sri Lanka’s pacers to sharpen their skills, particularly in death-over execution, a trademark that made him one of the most feared T20 bowlers in the world. His vast international experience and tactical awareness are expected to play a key role in preparing the squad for the global tournament.

The T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, beginning 7 February 2026, with the opening match scheduled at the SSC Grounds in Colombo. Sri Lanka Cricket believes Malinga’s involvement will provide a timely boost as the team targets a strong campaign on home soil.

This appointment marks another return to the national setup for Malinga, whose coaching stints worldwide and unmatched T20 pedigree continue to shape the next generation of Sri Lankan fast-bowling talent.
