The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has postponed both Bangladesh Premier League matches scheduled for Tuesday (30), following the death of former Prime Minister (PM) Khaleda Zia earlier that morning. The decision came just hours before the first match was due to begin in Sylhet between the Sylhet Titans and Chattogram Royals.
Khaleda Zia was Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister and served two separate terms in office. The BCB paid tribute to her role in supporting the development of cricket during her leadership, acknowledging her contribution to infrastructure growth and the national game’s rise.
In respect of the national mourning period, the board confirmed that both BPL fixtures, including the later match between Dhaka Capitals and Rangpur Riders, will be rescheduled. The ongoing 2025-26 BPL season only began on December 26, and with breaks already built into the calendar, the overall tournament schedule is unlikely to be affected.
Separately, the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis has also postponed nine matches from the Dhaka First Division Cricket League, originally set between December 30 and January 1. Revised schedules for all affected games will be announced in due course as competitions pause to honour the former national leader.
