Kohli smashes Tendulkar record; Rohit matches Warner’s 150-plus feats

Virat Kohli has become the fastest player in men’s List A cricket to reach 16,000 runs, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record. The milestone came in his 330th innings during Delhi’s Vijay Hazare Trophy clash against Andhra in Bengaluru, beating Tendulkar’s 391 innings to the landmark.

Kohli now holds the record for being the fastest to each 1,000-run increment from 10,000 onwards in List A cricket. With 14,557 runs in 296 ODI innings, he is firmly in the top echelons of the game, joining Tendulkar as the only Indians among the top five fastest to 16,000 runs internationally, alongside Gordon Greenidge (422 innings), Ricky Ponting (430), and Graham Gooch and Viv Richards (435).

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma reinforced his reputation as a prolific scorer by racking up 155 off 94 balls against Sikkim in Jaipur, matching David Warner’s record of nine 150-plus scores in List A cricket. His innings included 18 fours and nine sixes, taking him to his century in just 62 balls and making him the second-oldest centurion in Vijay Hazare Trophy history at 38 years and 238 days. Mumbai won the match by eight wickets.

Both Kohli and Rohit are returning to the Vijay Hazare Trophy after gaps of several seasons, Kohli since 2009-10 and Rohit since 2017-18, while showing they remain in outstanding form. Kohli was the Player of the Series in India’s recent ODIs against South Africa, scoring two hundreds and an unbeaten half-century, while Rohit also delivered a fine century in Australia and two fifties against South Africa.

Retired from Tests and T20Is, both players are eyeing the 2027 ODI World Cup, and their performances in domestic cricket underline they still have the firepower to dominate at the highest level.
