Scotland call up Thaker and Tekale for Men’s Under-19 World Cup

Scotland have named Shlok Thaker and Shreyas Tekale in their squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup, with Thomas Knight set to captain the 15-member side.

Both Thaker and Tekale earned their maiden World Cup call-ups after missing out on the ICC Europe Qualifier earlier this year, which Scotland won in Dundee. Head coach Keegan Russell praised the duo’s perseverance, highlighting Thaker’s strong return after feedback-driven improvements and Tekale’s impressive performances during the U-17 Celtic Cup tour in Ireland.

The Scottish squad will depart for South Africa on December 30 for a training camp in Potchefstroom before travelling to Zimbabwe for warm-up matches against India in Bulawayo and Bangladesh in Harare. Scotland have been drawn in Group C alongside England, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe in the 16-team tournament.

Scotland began their campaign on January 15 against hosts Zimbabwe in Harare, followed by fixtures against Pakistan and England at the same venue. After a winless group stage in the previous edition, the team will be aiming to make a stronger impression this time around.

Coach Russell said the World Cup presents both a learning opportunity and a platform to challenge established sides, as Scotland look to develop their young talent on the global stage.
