Sri Lanka Football has announced that the Champions League 2025 will officially resume on 19 December, marking a powerful step forward for the sport after the nation endured one of the most devastating natural disasters in its recent history.
The federation temporarily suspended fixtures in response to severe destruction across the country, a crisis that affected players, coaches, referees, and officials within the football community. With many clubs requesting time to regain stability, the pause allowed teams to recover while supporting their families and local communities during the national emergency.
In a message addressed to club presidents, secretaries, coaches, and players, officials highlighted football’s long-standing resilience in Sri Lanka. They emphasised that the sport has repeatedly served as a unifying force, restoring hope and togetherness during difficult periods. The decision to restart the league reflects confidence in football’s ability to uplift spirits, create normalcy, and inspire nationwide strength as the country begins to heal.
The revised fixture list will be released shortly through official platforms, with teams expected to resume full preparations ahead of the restart. Clubs have been encouraged to view the competition not only as a return to action but as a symbol of unity, discipline, and national resilience in the face of adversity.
As players return to the Racecourse Grounds later this month, Sri Lankan football aims to showcase its enduring spirit once again, standing together, rising together, and bringing the game back to life.
