Rain, controversial call denies Thunder a certain win

Sydney Thunder were left fuming after rain, and a sudden umpiring decision denied them a near-certain WBBL victory against Adelaide Strikers at a soaked Adelaide Oval.

Thunder were cruising at 43/0 in just 2.5 overs, needing only three more runs to complete a successful chase of 46 when umpires abruptly abandoned play despite the rain having eased.

Phoebe Litchfield was in explosive form, smashing 38* off 15 with four boundaries in one over off Darcie Brown, guiding Thunder to a dominant position that should have lifted them from seventh on the ladder.

Accordingly, Adelaide Strikers posted 45/2 in five overs, with Laura Wolvaardt hammering 22 off 13 and Shabnim Ismail leading the Thunder attack with 1/6. The earlier Sixers-Heat match was also washed out.
