Strikers seal final-ball win over heat in WBBL thriller

Adelaide Strikers edged Brisbane Heat in a nail-biting final-ball finish at Karen Rolton Oval, winning by six wickets after a tense chase of 170. With scores level off the last delivery, Bridget Patterson’s flick deflected off the pads and raced away for a leg bye to seal victory.

Laura Wolvaardt set the tone with a superb 51 off 33, cracking 10 fours, while Tammy Beaumont matched her with a stylish 51 as the pair powered a 92-run opening stand. Patterson’s calm unbeaten 32 then guided the Strikers home despite needing 31 off the final three overs.

Earlier, Brisbane Heat posted a competitive 169 for 5, led by Lauren Winfield-Hill’s aggressive 47 and a late burst from Georgia Redmayne and Nadine de Klerk. Adelaide’s attack was kept in check, but Amanda-Jade Wellington and Sophie Ecclestone claimed two wickets each to slow the momentum.

The win lifts Adelaide to their second victory of the season, while Brisbane remain winless after six tough outings.
