Pakistan Shaheens survive late scare to edge Sri Lanka A by five runs

Pakistan Shaheens booked their spot in the Men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 final after defending a modest 153, narrowly defeating Sri Lanka A by five runs in a thrilling contest in Doha. The match swung both ways, with Pakistan’s disciplined spin attack and composed death bowling, ultimately making the difference.

Chasing 154, Sri Lanka A looked dangerous early as Lasith Croospulle exploded with 27 off just seven balls, including three sixes, before Sufiyan Muqeem (3/12) and Saad Masood (3/18) triggered a dramatic collapse. Seven wickets fell in nine overs, leaving the visitors reeling at 90 for 7.

Pakistan’s innings had its own ups and downs. Maaz Sadaqat (23 off 11) and Mohammad Naeem (16 off 15) gave a quick start, but three early wickets reduced them to 58/5. Ghazi Ghori’s unbeaten 39 off 36 anchored the innings, while Ahmed Daniyal’s 22 off 8 from No. 9 provided crucial late runs to lift the Shaheens to 153/9.

Sri Lanka A fought back through a spirited 40 off 32 from Milan Rathnayake, taking the chase down to the final over. However, with 13 needed off six balls, Pakistan held their nerve, dismissing Rathnayake at 146/9 and preventing a miracle finish.

The Shaheens now await their opponent in the final, having showcased composure under pressure and effective bowling execution to survive Sri Lanka A’s explosive batting and late resurgence.
