Heather Graham all-round heroics propel Hurricanes to top of WBBL table

Heather Graham starred with both bat and ball as Hobart Hurricanes maintained their perfect start to the WBBL season, defeating Melbourne Renegades by six wickets in a rain-affected clash at North Sydney Oval.

Graham claimed 3 for 23 to halt the Renegades’ momentum before adding a crucial unbeaten 14 in the chase, guiding Hurricanes to an adjusted target of 106 with an over to spare. Nicola Carey contributed 39 off 29 balls, while Elyse Villani finished the game with 12 runs from five deliveries, sealing the victory.

Melbourne Renegades had looked in control thanks to Georgia Wareham’s 41 and Alice Capsey’s 37 in a 56-run fourth-wicket stand. A bizarre missed run-out early in Wareham’s innings initially gave the Renegades a lifeline, which the pair capitalised on in a two-over power surge. However, once Wareham fell, the total of 155 proved insufficient on the truncated target.

Hurricanes, now five wins from five, sit two points clear atop the table, with captain Villani praising the team’s shared responsibility and depth across batting and bowling.

With Graham leading from the front, the Hurricanes look in ominous form as the season progresses, keeping their clean slate intact and asserting themselves as genuine title contenders.
