Lanning’s 90 guides Melbourne Stars to rain-affected WBBL win

Meg Lanning starred for Melbourne Stars as they overcame Perth Scorchers in a rain-shortened WBBL clash in Adelaide. The former Australian captain, after a tricky start and being dropped on 18, exploded to finish 90 not out off 55 balls, anchoring her side to 173 for 4.

Rain reduced the Scorchers’ target to 95 from nine overs, but the Stars’ bowlers dominated, with Sophie Day taking 3 for 7 in her only over. Kim Garth and Annabel Sutherland also struck to ensure Perth fell short at 78 for 8.

Lanning’s innings was marked by aggressive strokeplay, particularly against Sophie Devine, as she reached her 50 off 35 balls before continuing to dominate. She credited her rhythm and preparation for her commanding performance.

The win highlights Lanning’s enduring class in domestic T20 cricket, as she continues to make an impact after retiring from international cricket.
