James Anderson extends Lancashire journey into remarkable 26th season

James Anderson will play on into 2026 after signing a fresh one-year deal with Lancashire, stretching his legendary career into a stunning 26th season.

The 43-year-old fast-bowling icon enjoyed a superb summer, claiming 17 County Championship wickets and producing a standout Vitality Blast return with 14 wickets at an economy of just 6.9.

Anderson retired from international cricket in July 2024 with 704 Test scalps, bowing out at Lord’s before being knighted for his services to the game.

His longevity remains unmatched, having debuted for Lancashire back in 2001 and surpassing 300 first-class appearances with a career haul of 1,143 wickets.

Lancashire believe the veteran still has more to offer, with Anderson expected to feature in both the County Championship and the Blast as he continues rewriting cricket’s age-defying chapters.
