Gill hits the fastest double-century in ODI history as India complete only the second successful 400-plus chase
Shubman Gill produced a breathtaking unbeaten 223 to lead India to a record-breaking chase of 406 against West Indies in Guwahati, with the hosts reaching their target in just 43.3 overs.
Gill’s innings was the defining performance of an extraordinary ODI, becoming the fastest double-century in men’s ODI history and the highest individual score in a successful ODI chase.
India’s victory was only the second successful chase of a target above 400 in ODI cricket.
Gill Leads Historic Chase

Gill dominated a remarkable opening partnership with Rohit Sharma, as the pair added 255 runs, India’s highest partnership in a successful ODI chase.
Rohit raced to his century from 72 balls, while Gill accelerated even further. He reached his hundred from just 62 balls, his fastest ODI century, before continuing to dismantle the West Indies attack.
Gill eventually finished unbeaten on 223, striking 34 of India’s 56 boundaries.
Rohit contributed a rapid 101, giving India the perfect platform before he was dismissed by Jayden Seales.
West Indies Make History Before India Respond

West Indies had earlier posted an imposing 405 for 7, their first-ever 400-plus ODI total.
John Campbell led the charge with 101, while Shai Hope scored a century to move beyond Brian Lara’s tally of 19 ODI hundreds. Amir Jangoo then added a brilliant 114 from 77 balls.
It was only the sixth time in ODI history that three batters had scored centuries in the same innings.
The match also became the first ODI to feature five centuries, with India’s Gill and Rohit joining Campbell, Hope and Jangoo.
Gill Turns Impossible Into Routine

India’s chase initially appeared daunting, but Gill and Rohit quickly transformed the target into a realistic one.
Gill repeatedly attacked both pace and spin, charging the fast bowlers and punishing anything short while also taking advantage of Roston Chase’s part-time offspin.
By the time Gill reached his century, India were firmly in control.
Virat Kohli added a brisk 29 from 19 balls before being caught near the boundary, but there was little doubt about the identity of the night’s dominant batter.
Gill remained unbeaten to the finish, completing one of the most remarkable individual performances in ODI cricket.
Bowling Problems Add to India’s Challenge
India had entered the chase with concerns after injuries to their bowlers during the West Indies innings.
Prasidh Krishna left the field after five overs, while Naman Dhir also suffered an injury after bowling 6.1 overs for just 38 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav finished with 2 for 65, reaching 200 ODI wickets and becoming the second-fastest Indian to the milestone.
Despite those setbacks, India’s batting strength proved overwhelming.
West Indies’ 405 had appeared imposing. By the end of the night, however, Gill had turned it into another record in India’s chase.
