Eden Carson returns from injury as New Zealand recall four players for three-match T20I series in Sydney
New Zealand have named a squad featuring 11 members of their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad from earlier this year for the upcoming three-match T20I series against reigning champions Australia in Sydney later this month.
Four players have earned recalls, with Eden Carson, Molly Penfold, Hannah Rowe and Bella James included in the squad led by captain Melie Kerr.
The series will see the White Ferns renew their rivalry with Australia, who remain the reigning T20 World Cup champions.
Carson Returns After Elbow Surgery

Carson makes her return to the international squad after undergoing elbow surgery, which kept her sidelined since late last year.
The spinner joins a bowling group that also includes all-rounders Nensi Patel, Flora Devonshire and Kerr.
Carson said she was delighted to be back in the White Ferns environment after a lengthy rehabilitation period.
“To be back in the White Ferns environment is really special,” Carson said.
“The rehab process has taken a lot of patience, but I’ve been fortunate to have great support around me and I’m feeling ready to get back out there and contribute.”
Inglis Set to Take the Gloves
Wicketkeeper-batter Izzy Gaze will miss the series after undergoing surgery on an ongoing thumb injury.
With Gaze unavailable, Polly Inglis is set to take over wicketkeeping duties for the three matches.
The squad also reflects several significant changes following the recent retirements of Sophie Devine and Lea Tahuhu, with Penfold and Rowe returning to the side.
Bella James has been included following the departure of veteran batter Suzie Bates.
Brownlie Takes Interim Coaching Role
The series will be New Zealand’s first under interim head coach Dean Brownlie following the departure of former head coach Ben Sawyer.
Brownlie, who previously worked with the team’s batting group, believes the series against Australia will provide an important test for a squad combining established players with emerging talent.
“There’s a balance of experience and future-focus in this squad and it’s going to be a chance for the group to test themselves against a quality side,” Brownlie said.
“Competing against the best in the world is always going to be a challenge, but it also provides a lot of opportunities to learn and strengthen skillsets within that.”
Important Preparation for 2027
The three-match series carries added significance as New Zealand begin preparations for the inaugural 2027 ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in India.
Facing the reigning T20 World Cup champions will give the White Ferns an opportunity to assess their new-look squad and build combinations following several major changes to the playing and coaching group.
With experienced players returning alongside a number of younger options, the Sydney series will mark an important stage in New Zealand’s preparations for the next phase of their international campaign.
Squad: Melie Kerr (C), Eden Carson, Flora Devonshire, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis, Bella James, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Nensi Patel, Molly Penfold, Georgia Plimmer, Hannah Rowe, Izzy Sharp
