Pakistan captain set to make WBBL debut with Perth, initially available for first eight matches

Perth Scorchers have signed Pakistan captain Fatima Sana for the 2026-27 Women’s Big Bash League, with the all-rounder set to make her first appearance in the competition.

The WBBL season begins on October 29, with Sana initially available for the Scorchers’ first eight matches.

Her stay could be extended if she receives permission to remain in Australia and miss a Pakistan training camp ahead of the team’s expected tour of the West Indies in December.

The dates of that tour have not yet been officially confirmed by Cricket West Indies.

Sana Living a WBBL Dream

Sana said she had followed the WBBL from Pakistan and was delighted to finally have the opportunity to compete in the tournament.

“I’ve watched the WBBL from Pakistan and always wondered what it would feel like to be part of this great competition,” Sana said in a Scorchers statement.

“To now wear the Scorchers colours, represent such a great club and walk out at the WACA Ground in front of members and fans, while being cheered on by people back home, is incredibly special. This really is a dream come true.”

Sana will become only the second Pakistan player to feature in the WBBL, following Nida Dar, who played 11 matches for Sydney Thunder in the 2019 season.

Second Overseas League Move of 2026

The Scorchers move represents Sana’s second overseas T20 league appearance of 2026.

Earlier this year, she became the first Pakistani woman to play in The Hundred, joining Birmingham Phoenix as a wildcard replacement for Australia’s Lucy Hamilton.

She has also previously featured in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League and New Zealand’s Women’s Super Smash, in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

Sana Enjoys Outstanding 2026

At just 24, Sana has established herself as one of Pakistan’s leading all-rounders.

She has enjoyed an outstanding year with both bat and ball, leading Pakistan in runs and wickets in 2026.

Sana has taken 31 wickets in 20 innings at an economy rate of 7.35, while scoring 540 runs at a strike rate of 149.58.

She has also captained Pakistan since the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup.

At this year’s Women’s T20 World Cup, Sana was the leading wicket-taker among fast bowlers, claiming 11 wickets at an economy rate of 6.95. Overall, she finished joint-second on the wicket-takers’ list alongside Sophie Molineux, behind N Shree Charani.

Scorchers Begin at the WACA

Perth will begin their WBBL campaign at home, hosting the Melbourne Renegades at the WACA Ground.

Sana’s arrival gives the Scorchers an experienced international all-rounder and Pakistan’s captain, while the tournament will provide her with another opportunity to test herself against some of the world’s leading players.
