Harry Brook to lead England as Adil Rashid and Sam Curran return, while Mason Crane earns maiden ODI call-up
The England Cricket Board (ECB) has announced a 16-player squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the tournament scheduled to take place in Lahore and Rawalpindi from October 18 to 31.
England will be led by Harry Brook, who remains at the helm after guiding the side to a 2-1 ODI series victory over Sri Lanka on home soil last month.
The tri-series will culminate in a final between the top two teams in the standings.
England’s squad for the tri-series: Harry Brook (c), Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, James Coles, Jordan Cox, Mason Crane, Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Josh Tongue.
Rashid and Curran Return
England have welcomed back two experienced campaigners in Adil Rashid and Sam Curran.
Rashid returns after recovering from a hand injury, while Curran has made himself available again following a groin injury.
Their returns add experience to an England squad preparing for a busy period of white-ball cricket ahead of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Buttler Absent After Hamstring Injury

England will, however, be without Jos Buttler, who suffered a hamstring injury during the second ODI against Sri Lanka.
In Buttler’s absence, Jordan Cox impressed both with the bat and behind the stumps. The wicketkeeper-batter struck a rapid 76 off 52 balls in the third ODI at The Oval, helping England post 355 and secure a 223-run victory.
Cox is now in contention for a greater role during the tri-series.
Crane Receives Maiden ODI Call-Up
England have also handed Mason Crane his first ODI call-up.
The leg-spinner, who is now 29, made his Test debut against Australia in the final Ashes Test in Sydney in 2018. He has also represented England in two T20Is, taking one wicket.
Crane will now have an opportunity to make his ODI debut in Pakistan.
England have opted to rest Jofra Archer for the tour, managing the fast bowler’s workload ahead of future assignments.
Youngsters Added to the Squad
England have also included two promising young players in James Coles and Henry Crocombe.
The 22-year-old Coles is an all-rounder, while 21-year-old Crocombe is a pace bowler. Both players were previously included in England’s white-ball squads for the Sri Lanka series.
Their inclusion provides England with an opportunity to assess emerging options ahead of the 2027 World Cup cycle.
England Begin Against Pakistan
England will open their tri-series campaign against Pakistan on October 20 in Rawalpindi.
Sri Lanka will complete the three-team competition, with the sides using the tournament as part of their preparations for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
The competition will provide England with another opportunity to test their squad depth while developing combinations ahead of the global tournament.
