Nepal and Afghanistan advance from Group A, while Malaysia and Hong Kong progress from Group B after rain disrupts the final preliminary fixtures.

The quarter-final line-up for the men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games has been confirmed after rain washed out the final Group A and Group B fixtures.

Nepal and Afghanistan secured their places in the last eight after the Group A clash between Nepal and Japan was abandoned without a result. The washout brought Japan’s campaign to an end, with the hosts unable to progress to the knockout stage.

Nepal Show Batting Strength Before Rain

Nepal had already stunned Afghanistan in their earlier Group A encounter and once again impressed with the bat against Japan.

Sundeep Jora and Lokesh Bam both struck half-centuries as Nepal reached 149 for 4 after 15 overs before heavy rain brought the match to a premature end.

With no further play possible, the result was enough to confirm Nepal and Afghanistan as the two teams advancing from Group A.

Malaysia and Hong Kong Advance

Rain also intervened in the Group B fixture between Malaysia and Oman, with the match abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The washout saw Malaysia and Hong Kong progress to the quarter-finals, while Oman’s campaign came to an end.

With the preliminary stage now complete, the men’s Asian Games cricket quarter-final line-up is officially set, with the remaining teams preparing for the knockout phase.
