Urvil Patel equals IPL record with blazing 13-ball Fifty

Urvil Patel etched his name into Indian Premier League (IPL) history after smashing a sensational 13-ball half-century for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Chepauk, equalling the fastest fifty ever recorded in the tournament.

The explosive wicketkeeper-batter matched the record set by Yashasvi Jaiswal during IPL 2023 and produced one of the quickest knocks in all T20 cricket. Patel hammered seven sixes and a four to reach the milestone before eventually falling for 65 off just 23 deliveries in CSK’s successful chase of 204.

Coming in at 45 for 1, Patel completely changed the momentum of the game with fearless strokeplay. After reaching fifty, he celebrated emotionally by displaying a note reading, “This is for you, Papa,” creating one of the standout moments of the season.

The innings powered CSK to their first successful chase of a 180-plus target in the IPL since 2019 and lifted them to fifth place on the points table with 12 points from 10 matches. Patel, playing only his fourth game of the season, grabbed his chance after an injury to Ayush Mhatre opened the door in the playing XI.
