Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup campaign has suffered a serious setback with pace spearhead Matheesha Pathirana ruled out of the remainder of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to injury.
The slingy right-armer picked up a muscle strain in his left leg during Sri Lanka’s recent match against Australia in Kandy and has been deemed unfit to take any further part in the tournament.
The ICC Event Technical Committee (ETC) has approved Dilshan Madushanka as his replacement, with Sri Lanka hoping the left-arm quick can fill the void left by one of their primary death-over weapons.
The injury compounds Sri Lanka’s bowling troubles, with star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga also sidelined, leaving the attack short on both experience and control at a critical stage.
Sri Lanka now head into their final group-stage encounter against Zimbabwe in Colombo under pressure, needing a reshuffled bowling unit to step up and keep their World Cup hopes alive.
