Taijul, Murad seal dominant Bangladesh victory and 2-0 series sweep

Bangladesh wrapped up a commanding 217-run win over Ireland in Dhaka, sealing a 2-0 series sweep after Taijul Islam and Hasan Murad combined to break a gritty final-day resistance. Chasing an improbable 509, Ireland stretched the fight deep into the fifth day through Curtis Campher’s marathon 71* off 259 balls.

Bangladesh’s frustration peaked as Campher and Gavin Hoey survived for more than 31 overs, dragging the game into the final session. But Murad delivered the breakthrough, removing Hoey and then Matthew Humphreys in successive balls to close the contest. Both Murad and Taijul finished with four wickets each, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with a crucial strike when the second new ball arrived.

Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim’s century in his 100th Test and Litton Das’ 128 underpinned Bangladesh’s dominant first-innings 476. Taijul also crossed a major milestone, becoming Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker and the sixth left-arm spinner to reach 250 Test wickets when he trapped Andy McBrine lbw on the final morning.

Ireland resumed on 176 for 6 and battled hard, with Jordan Neill counterattacking his way to a lively cameo and Campher reaching fifty with a straight six. But despite batting 59.3 overs on the last day, the resistance finally cracked, handing Bangladesh a well-deserved series sweep.
