Melbourne Renegades pulled off a composed four-wicket win over Melbourne Stars in the WBBL derby at Junction Oval, climbing to second on the table behind Hobart Hurricanes. Chasing 142, the Renegades were cruising early through Courtney Webb’s 37 and Sophie Molineux’s 32 before late wickets tightened the contest.
With 12 needed off the final ten balls, Tess Flintoff stepped up against her former club, cracking a six and two fours off Annabel Sutherland to seal victory with seven balls left. Deandra Dottin and Georgia Wareham had earlier holed out under pressure, but Flintoff’s calm aggression ensured the chase didn’t slip away.
Stars posted 141 for 7 after early setbacks, including Meg Lanning falling for just 3. Sutherland (29), Marizanne Kapp (22) and Kim Garth’s late 29 off 19 kept the innings afloat, but Dottin’s excellent 3 for 20, restricted the momentum.
Renegades now sit at 3–1 for the season, while Stars remain searching for consistency despite promising moments with both bat and ball.
