Sophie Devine produced a sensational all-round display to guide Perth Scorchers to a four-wicket victory over Melbourne Renegades, overshadowing Alice Capsey’s stunning spell at Junction Oval.
Chasing 150, Scorchers appeared in total control at 116 for 2 after Devine’s explosive 46 off 24 balls at the top. But the game turned dramatically when Capsey ripped through the middle order, taking three wickets in a single over, including the key scalp of Beth Mooney for 41, to leave Perth shaken at 118 for 6.
Despite the sudden collapse, Freya Kemp (18*) and Lilly Mills (15*) held their nerve, stitching together a vital partnership to seal the chase with eight balls to spare. Capsey finished with an outstanding 4 for 14 in a spell that almost flipped the match.
Earlier, Devine’s 2 for 16 helped restrict Renegades to 150, with Nicola Faltum’s unbeaten 41 and Sarah Coyte’s quickfire 24 rescuing the innings from 94 for 7. Chloe Ainsworth (2 for 17) and Amy Edgar (2 wickets) kept the pressure on throughout.
Devine’s brilliance ultimately proved decisive, lifting Perth further up the WBBL ladder while halting Renegades’ push for a top-spot share.
