- Mitchell dethrones Rohit Sharma to lead ODI batting charts
- Only the second New Zealander to top the rankings after Glenn Turner in 1979
- Temba Bavuma breaks into Test top five; Abrar Ahmed rises in bowling rankings
Daryl Mitchell has claimed the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings following his seventh ODI century against West Indies, becoming only the second New Zealander to reach the top, after Glenn Turner in 1979. Despite the achievement, Mitchell was forced to miss the remainder of the three-match series due to injury sustained during his innings.
New Zealand greats like Martin Crowe, Kane Williamson, and Ross Taylor have all spent time in the top-five without ever claiming the top position. Mitchell’s rise marks a historic moment for Kiwi cricket and reflects his consistent performances in limited-overs cricket.
In Test rankings, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma entered the top five after a pivotal half-century in challenging conditions in Kolkata, helping his team secure their first Test win in India in 15 years. Shubman Gill, currently injured, sits just outside the top 10, while Joe Root and Harry Brook lead the Test batting charts.
On the bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah retains his No. 1 position in Tests, followed by Matt Henry and Noman Ali. Pakistan legspinner Abrar Ahmed jumped 11 spots to No. 9 after his key contributions in a 3-0 ODI series win over Sri Lanka. In T20Is, Jacob Duffy moved to No. 2 following his strong performance against West Indies, just behind Varun Chakravarthy.
The ODI batting top 10 now features three Indians – Rohit Sharma (No. 2), Ibrahim Zadran (Afghanistan, No. 3), Shubman Gill (No. 4), Virat Kohli (No. 5), and Shreyas Iyer (No. 8) – alongside Mitchell at the summit.
