Benny Howell joins Nottinghamshire on two-year T20 deal

Nottinghamshire have signed experienced allrounder Benny Howell on a two-year T20-only deal, marking the end of his stint with Hampshire. The 37-year-old will step into the role previously held by Steven Mullaney, who has transitioned into coaching after years of success with the Outlaws.

Head coach Peter Moores praised Howell’s tactical skills and leadership qualities, saying he was the “perfect fit” for a side blending emerging talent with experience. Howell, known for his deceptive variations, previously spent 11 seasons at Gloucestershire before returning to Hampshire in 2023, helping them reach two Finals Days.

“It’s a real honour to sign for Notts Outlaws,” Howell said. “With my skill set and experience, I hope to contribute to the team’s success in the Blast and ideally lift that trophy.”

The move signals Nottinghamshire’s renewed push to reclaim T20 success after missing the quarter-finals for three consecutive seasons.
