- South Africa bowl India out for 93 to chase down 124 and seal a 30-run victory
- First win in India in 15 years, achieving the second-smallest successful defence in Asia
South Africa pulled off a remarkable win at Eden Gardens, reducing India to 93 all out in pursuit of a modest 124-run target. Temba Bavuma anchored the innings with an unbeaten 55, supported by Corbin Bosch’s quickfire 25, helping South Africa secure a historic victory, their first in India in 15 years.
Simon Harmer (4-21) and Marco Jansen (2-15) were the architects of India’s collapse, exploiting the pitch’s sideways movement and uneven bounce to perfection. Ravindra Jadeja’s four-wicket haul proved in vain as India’s batting depth was exposed, especially in the absence of injured captain Shubman Gill.
South Africa’s tactical selection of fast bowlers and minimal spin paid dividends, with Jansen’s early strikes sending both openers back and Harmer consistently troubling India’s middle order. Axar Patel’s late resistance, including a few sixes, could not alter the outcome as Bavuma and his bowlers kept India from gaining any momentum.
The victory highlighted South Africa’s adaptability and resilience on a treacherous pitch, with celebrations echoing around a stunned Eden Gardens as the visitors defied expectations to script a memorable Test win.
