Injury blow for Proteas: Dewald Brevis ruled out of Pakistan ODIs

South Africa’s young star Dewald Brevis has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan after sustaining a low-grade shoulder muscle strain during the third T20I in Lahore on Saturday.

The 22-year-old will stay with the squad in Pakistan to undergo rehabilitation as the Proteas prepare for their next assignment — a full tour of India later this month featuring two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is.

South Africa have not named a replacement for Brevis, whose absence adds to the side’s growing list of injuries, with Kwena Maphaka and Anrich Nortje already sidelined. The ODI squad, led by Matthew Breetzke, will lean on the experience of Quinton de Kock as they face Pakistan in Faisalabad — hosting men’s international cricket for the first time since 2008.

Before his injury, Brevis had featured in every match of the Pakistan tour, showing glimpses of promise but still chasing consistency at the international level.
