Newlands, Tshwane and the Wanderers to host the tournament’s three knockout matches in South Africa

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the venues for the semi-finals and final of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, with three iconic South African grounds selected to host the tournament’s biggest matches.

Newlands Stadium in Cape Town will host the first semi-final on November 17, before Tshwane stages the second semi-final on November 18.

The tournament will then conclude at The Wanderers in Johannesburg, which will host the World Cup final on November 21.

All three knockout matches are scheduled as day games starting at 10:00 local time, with reserve days allocated in case weather or other conditions prevent the matches from being completed as scheduled.

Wanderers Set for Another World Cup Final

The Wanderers holds a significant place in cricket history and will once again stage a World Cup final more than two decades after hosting the 2003 edition.

In the 2003 final, Ricky Ponting’s unbeaten 140 off 121 balls helped Australia defeat India by 125 runs and lift the trophy.

The Johannesburg venue also hosted the final of the inaugural men’s T20 World Cup in 2007, where India defeated Pakistan by five runs to become the first T20 world champions.

The Wanderers will also host one of the most anticipated group-stage fixtures of the 2027 World Cup when India face Pakistan on October 10. The venue is scheduled to host two additional Super 7 matches.

Newlands to Host India-Australia Clash

Before staging the first semi-final, Cape Town will host a high-profile group-stage encounter between India and Australia on October 7.

The fixture will be a rematch of the 2023 World Cup final, adding further significance to the early-stage meeting.

Newlands will also host other matches during the tournament, while Tshwane is scheduled to stage three group games and a Super 7 encounter before hosting the second semi-final.

Ticket Ballot Opens

With excitement building ahead of the tournament, the ICC has also opened its ticket ballot, allowing fans around the world to register for an opportunity to purchase tickets.

Ticket prices will start from USD $9.62 (R158) for entry-level matches and rise to USD $31.31 (R514) for the highest-tier matches.

The ticketing programme also includes provisions for family bundles, student and pensioner pricing, early-bird local allocations, and community club and school group packages.

The 2027 Cricket World Cup will be staged across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, with the knockout stage now firmly mapped out at three of South Africa’s most historic cricket venues.
