Sanju Samson capped off a remarkable campaign by winning the Player of the Tournament award at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after playing a pivotal role in India’s historic triumph.

The Indian opener amassed 321 runs from five innings at an average of 80.25 and a blistering strike rate of 199.37, powering India to their third T20 World Cup title.

Samson delivered when it mattered most, scoring half-centuries in India’s final three matches and earning Player of the Match awards against the West Indies and England before producing another match-winning knock in the final against the New Zealand.

Reflecting on his journey, Samson revealed he received valuable guidance from legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar, who remained in constant contact with him leading up to the final.

The 31-year-old admitted he endured a difficult phase after a disappointing series against New Zealand but stayed committed to his preparation and vision of succeeding on the biggest stage.

Samson’s resurgence proved decisive as he rose at the crucial moments of the tournament, transforming personal setbacks into a historic World Cup-winning performance for India.
