Afghanistan’s Tour of India: Test and ODI schedule confirmed

Afghanistan will return to India for a multi-format series in June, nearly eight years after playing their first-ever Test in the country.

The tour will kick off with a one-off Test in New Chandigarh starting June 6, marking only the second-ever Test meeting between Afghanistan and India.

Following the longest format clash, the two sides will contest a three-match ODI series as preparation for next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027. The series begins in Dharamsala on June 14, with the second ODI in Lucknow on June 17 and the third in Chennai on June 20.

The Afghanistan camp has undergone a major change with Richard Pybus appointed head coach following Jonathan Trott’s exit, who had guided the team to their first T20 World Cup semi-final last year.

India, meanwhile, have already secured a semi-final spot in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and will face England on March 5, setting the stage for Afghanistan’s challenging tour.

Schedule of Afghanistan’s tour of India:

  • One-off Test: June 6-10, New Chandigarh
  • First ODI: June 14, Dharamshala
  • Second ODI: June 17, Lucknow
  • Third ODI: June 20, Chennai
