Pakistan have named their ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming tour of South Africa, using the series as a crucial building block towards the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales. The announcement signals a clear intent to broaden the talent pool while restoring momentum after a disappointing Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign.
Fatima Sana will continue to lead the side in both formats, tasked with guiding a refreshed squad that blends experience with emerging talent. The selectors have handed maiden T20I call-ups to uncapped batter Saira Jabeen and right-arm fast bowler Humna Bilal, underlining Pakistan’s focus on depth and adaptability in the shortest format as World Cup planning intensifies.
The ODI squad sees the return of experienced campaigners Ayesha Zafar, Gull Feroza, Tasmia Rubab and wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi, all of whom missed out on last year’s World Cup selection. Their inclusion adds stability and experience to a group that also features regulars such as Muneeba Ali, Sidra Amin, Aliya Riaz, Nashra Sundhu and Sadia Iqbal, forming the backbone across both formats.
Several players have been given format-specific roles, with Diana Baig, Sadaf Shamas, Syeda Aroob Shah and Najiha Alvi named only in the ODI squad, while Tuba Hassan, Eyman Fatima, Humna Bilal and Saira Jabeen will feature exclusively in the T20I setup. The tailored selections highlight Pakistan’s attempt to build specialist units ahead of the global tournament.
A pre-series training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre in Karachi from February 1 to 6 will allow the squad to fine-tune combinations before departing for South Africa. The tour marks Pakistan Women’s first bilateral visit to the country since 2021, adding further significance as they look to sharpen their competitive edge and lay firm foundations for a strong T20 World Cup 2026 push.
