Canada name squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign

Canada have announced their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, marking their second appearance at the global tournament as they look to build on the experience gained during their debut outing in 2024.

The North American side qualified in emphatic fashion by winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Regional Final, where they topped the table with six wins from six matches to book their place at the showpiece event, to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Canada made a positive impression on debut in the 2024 edition, finishing fourth in their group and collecting three points, highlighted by a memorable 12-run victory over Ireland. That breakthrough result signalled Canada’s growing competitiveness on the world stage, and the team will now aim to go a step further.

Bowling remains a major strength for the side, with Shivam Sharma and Kaleem Sana expected to play key roles once again. Sharma’s off-spin yielded 11 wickets at an average of 7.81 during the regional qualifiers, while Sana’s left-arm pace proved equally potent with 10 wickets at 7.5, giving Canada a balanced and disciplined attack.

In the batting department, Nicholas Kirton leads an aggressive top-order unit, with additional firepower coming from Yuvraj Samra, whose strike rate of 160.72 underlines his ability to change games quickly in the middle overs.

Canada face a stern challenge in the group stage, having been drawn alongside South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan and the UAE. They will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against South Africa in Ahmedabad on 9 February 2026, a high-pressure opener that will immediately test their progress and ambitions.

With momentum from an unbeaten qualifying run and growing confidence at international level, Canada enter the tournament determined to make a stronger impact and further establish themselves among the emerging forces in world cricket.
