Washington Sundar ruled out of remainder of ODI series; Ayush Badoni drafted in

India all-rounder Washington Sundar will miss the remainder of the ongoing ODI series after experiencing acute discomfort in his left lower rib area while bowling during the first ODI at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday. Sundar bowled five overs and remained unbeaten on 7 in India’s thrilling chase of 300, which was achieved with an over to spare.

The BCCI Medical Team will conduct further scans to determine the full extent of Sundar’s injury before seeking expert advice on his fitness. The setback comes ahead of India’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which serves as a key build-up to next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Ayush Badoni has been named as Sundar’s replacement, earning his first call-up to India’s ODI squad. The 24-year-old is expected to join the team in Rajkot, where the second ODI of the series will be played on Wednesday, 14 January.

India’s squad is already managing injury concerns, with batter Tilak Varma recovering from a separate injury and set to miss the first three T20Is against New Zealand. Despite these challenges, the team’s batting showed depth in Vadodara, with Virat Kohli narrowly missing a century and Shreyas Iyer contributing a vital 49 runs.

India squad for 2nd and 3rd ODIs:

Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Shreyas Iyer (VC), Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ayush Badoni
